Watcher Angel Tarot

The Sword Suit

Ace
"Conquest"
There is a cool story about the ace image, about the Watcher angels teaching mortals the craft of weapon smithing.   I love this card, it is perfect, exactly as I wanted.

Two
"Stalemate"

Three
"Sorrow"
I like that it has the look of bleak despair, the feel of a bitter cold winter.  It was a challenge not to draw something so sorrowful as to overshadow the eventual 10 of Swords which is to mean "tragedy", so I hope this sufficiently captures the meaning without going overboard.

Four
"Respite"
Five
"Defeat"
I absolutely loved painting this card, it came out exactly how I wanted. It's the color contrast of the card that I like. I had this image in my head, I drew it and painted it in a week. Sometimes when it works it works.

Six
"Passage"
I was doing some energy play with a friend and I got an image of a man standing on a hillside looking up at the treeline. It was a damp evening, the man's hair was wet and unbrushed. While this isn't exactly the vision I saw (as what I saw didn't have a river), but this is an homage to that memory.

Seven
"Betrayal or Theft"
Eight
"Imprisonment"
The background of this card was done using a salt technique. I am especially fond of the wing colors of this figure.
Nine
"Nightmares"
I like how this card turned out, very spooky.
Ten
"Tragedy"
This card was inspired by a song, Measure of a Man by singer Heather Dale. The card represents a culmination of the suit.

Knight
"The Philosopher"
I love how the eyes came out here. This is my friend Midair in the SCA, I thought that he would make the perfect knight card.

Knight of Swords Knight of Swords
Queen
"The Intellectual"
Drawn at Twilight II in Atlanta. I'm having a love affair with Payne's Gray pigment.
King
"The Judge"
Judgment in his more solemn, reflective moments - wise.
